Foodbomb has integrated with Stripe, the payment gateway, to provide a clear and effective payment strategy for Foodbomb customers. This allows for weight variances, substitutions, and Out of Stock Items in your order. Below is some key information about the PreAuth process from Stripe;
- A pre-authorization is only a hold of funds against the card. No payment has been settled.
- The bank chooses whether or not to display the pre-authorization on the cardholder's statement, which differs per bank and may also not appear immediately. The statement descriptor of the authorization could also be different than that of the settled payment.
- Banks handle displaying pre-authorizations in different ways, which varies from bank to bank. This means that it may show as an authorization as expected, whereas it may also be the case that the bank does not distinguish between authorized and captured payments so it appears as an actual charge on the customer's statement as if it has settled.
- Pre-authorizations - whether released by your platform, automatically after 7 days, or the funds are captured - typically fall off within 2-3 days leaving only the actual settled payment displaying.
- In rare cases, an authorization remains for longer than 2-3 days. If a customer notices a "duplicate charge" where they are seeing both the original authorization and the settled charge then Stripe will be able to help. Each authorization has an "authorization code" that Stripe can provide you to pass to the customer, and their bank will then be able to confirm the authorization and in some cases drop the authorization for their customer on their end.
